“VELO”: o rubrica noua, obligatorie

Joi, Noiembrie 26th, 2009

“On 6th December this year people on bicycles will take to highways, streets and dirt tracks across the planet, demonstrating the capacity and willingness of ordinary people to take action against dangerous climate change. The next day, in Copenhagen, the most important climate change negotiations yet will begin. We aim to help convince those governments taking part to do what is necessary to ensure our planet’s climate remains safe.

The Ride Planet Earth Campaign Video

The aim of the event is three-fold:
(1) Raising awareness about the current impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities around the world.
(2) Demonstrating the capacity and willingness of ordinary people to take action against dangerous climate change, action such as using low-carbon transport.
(3) Urging the governments attending COP15 to take the action necessary to reduce greenhouse emissions to safe levels, agree on the means to do so and agree to start doing so immediately. Participants will be asked to record video messages to be shown in Copenhagen during the negotiation period.

There are Ride Planet Earth events happening on every continent bar Antarctica. You can find out all the details about where and how to get involved at the Ride Planet Earth website or the . If there are no events happening near you, email the project manager Kim Nguyen ( ) and set up your own ride.

You can still join the Cycle Change Convoy, the group of riders who have joined Kim during his journey from Brisbane to Copenhagen, in the next 5 weeks leading up to COP15. Please see the itinerary here or to arrange to join the Convoy.

You can also still join the Ride Planet Earth Challenge, by making a commitment to use environmentally sustainable transport here.

Our planet needs our help, we need to act now. The time for talking is over. Join the Ride. Start Cycle Change and Stop Climate Change.”
